Chinese Number Activites

Here are some FREE printable activities for you to try!

你好!我是Suzy. Hello! I’m Suzy.  I teach Chinese to my kiddos and teach Chinese preschool so I love making games and activities to help with learning. In this post I am sharing a couple of super simple printable activities to try with your kids.

First I’d like to explain the number pages and my reasoning behind creating them.

I have made ten pages (one for each Chinese number character from 1-10).  Each page has the same basic outline.  The idea is to practice the character in multiple different ways to keep your child’s interest and to help them solidify learning and memory.

Each page asks your child to do the following activities:

  1. Color the character: use as many or as few colors as you want.  Make it perfectly neat or messy – we want to encourage FUN, not frustration!
  2. Find the focus word: this is like a word search game, but we want to find all the target characters.  They can highlight them with a highlighter, circle them, X them out, etc.  Provide your child with CHOICES as they work on the page, so they feel empowered and a sense of ownership over their learning.
  3. Trace the word. You can try a pencil or crayons or even chalk or paints if you’d like to make it more exciting!
  4. Write it.  Your child may or may not be able to create the word on their own.  Praise their effort and if they feel too nervous or frustrated, provide a lightly colored example for them to try and trace.
  5. Dot it: you can just color in the circle, or use circle stickers or these colored paint daubers that I love. (see the liks below).
  6. Read and circle it.  If you know Chinese, you can hlep your child find the word and read the others for them. If you’re not able to read all the words, that’s okay! Just try to find the words in the sentence.  Or you can use Google translate or another APP such as Pleco to find the translation and pronunciations.

These Dot Markers are super fun for so many Chinese learning activities! They’re also a great way to incorporate “painting” without the mess!

This is a simple alternative to the “Do a Dot Makers” for the “dot it” section on the free printables.

Roll and Color Chinese Practice Game

Also included in the free Chinese number learning printables is “Roll and Color” game.

To play all you need is markers and a dice.

Have your child roll the die, and then depending on the number they roll, they fill in a square with the correlating Chinese character.  For example, in this photo Madi rolled a ONE, so she found a square with the character “yi” 一 and is coloring it in!  Continue the game until all the squares are colored in!
